Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened plant-based milk
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon culinary lavender buds
- 1/2 cup fresh or frozen small blueberries
- 1/2 teaspoon alcohol-free vanilla extract
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease and lightly flour a Madeleine pan, tapping out any excess flour.
- Step 2: In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and culinary lavender buds until well combined.
- Step 3: In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the plant-based milk, vegetable oil, and alcohol-free vanilla extract.
- Step 4: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix gently with a spatula until just combined, being careful not to overmix. Gently fold in the blueberries. Cover the bowl and refrigerate the batter for at least 30 minutes (or up to 1 hour). This chilling step is crucial for the madeleines to develop their signature hump.
- Step 5: Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the chilled batter into each cavity of the prepared Madeleine pan, filling each about two-thirds full.
- Step 6: Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the madeleines have puffed up with the characteristic "hump." Carefully remove them from the pan immediately and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- Keep your cooled madeleines in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2-3 days to preserve their tender crumb and fresh flavor.
- If you've stored your madeleines, a quick 5-minute warm-up in a 300°F (150°C) oven will beautifully refresh their texture and aroma.
- These elegantly aromatic madeleines are wonderful on their own, but for a special touch, serve them with a dusting of powdered sugar, a dollop of coconut whipped cream, or alongside a warm cup of herbal tea.
- To achieve the perfect madeleine hump, strictly adhere to the batter's chilling time, and ensure your lavender buds are culinary-grade for a pure, delightful floral note free of bitterness.
