Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 3/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla powder (optional)
- 1/2 cup add-ins (e.g., chocolate chips, dried fruit, or nuts)
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- Step 3: Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Step 4: Stir in the heavy cream and vanilla bean paste (if using) until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; the dough should be slightly sticky.
- Step 5: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together. Pat it into a circle about 1-inch thick and cut into wedges or use a biscuit cutter to make rounds.
- Step 6: Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown on top. Enjoy warm!
Notes
- For optimal freshness, store any leftover scones in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or in the fridge for up to a week.
- To enjoy your scones warm, reheat them in a toaster oven or conventional oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 5-10 minutes until warmed through and slightly crispy on the outside.
- Serve your scones with clotted cream and your favorite jam for a delightful treat that pairs perfectly with tea or coffee.
- For extra height and flakiness, make sure your butter is very cold and handle the dough as little as possible to keep it from becoming tough.
