Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. This should take about 3-5 minutes using an electric mixer.
- Step 2: Add the egg and vanilla powder to the mixture, and beat until well combined.
- Step 3: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, salt, and ground cinnamon. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a dough forms.
- Step 4: Divide the dough into two equal portions and wrap each in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
- Step 5: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out one portion of dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/8 inch thick. Cut into strips, then roll each strip into a spiral shape resembling a snail shell.
- Step 6: Place the spirals on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for about 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden. Allow to cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
- For optimal freshness, store your Sugar Snails in an airtight container at room temperature for up to five days.
- To enjoy them warm again, simply reheat in a preheated oven at 300°F (150°C) for 5-7 minutes to restore their delightful texture.
- Serve these tasty treats alongside a cup of tea or coffee, or as a sweet addition to your dessert platter at gatherings.
- For the best flavor, make sure your butter is truly softened before creaming with the sugar; this will help create that perfect light and fluffy texture essential for deliciously tender snails.
